Planning and Design
  • Reinforce the special character of the historic church of St John's and its heritage place as a community church in the story of Canberra.
  • Recognise the needs of the Diocesan offices and programs.
  • Contribute positively to the character of Constitution Avenue and the city centre of Canberra.
  • Demonstrate highest qualities in architecture, urban design and landscape management.
  • Be a good neighbour to CIT, Reid and Campbell residents, the city centre and major newcomers such as the AFP.
  • Encourage pedestrian movement and connections across the site.


Function

  • Provide a flexible master plan for the site.
  • Provide required and future accommodation, second place of worship etc.
  • Enhance the operation of the Parish, its outreach activities and the Diocese.
  • Improve connections with adjoining sites.
  • Allow creative management of traffic, access and parking.
  • Consider and incorporate the most modern technology for sustainability and costs in use.
  • Ensure functional transition arrangements for Parish and Diocesan staff and programs.



Financial and Timing

  • Retain ownership of the land for present and future generations.
  • Develop a realistic income stream for the work of the Parish and the Diocese including the outreach activities.
  • Develop a program for progressive realisation of the value of the site.
